The Benefits of Working From Home

It's only fair to share...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterDigg thisShare on Google+Share on LinkedInPin on Pinterest

A few days ago, I was thinking about the benefits of working from home  as I was reviewing my The Benefits of Working From homeFacebook notifications.  One of my friends had just retired after working many, many years. In the post someone had asked how she was doing now that she was retired. Interestingly, her husband responded to the question and said that “he was doing better now since he didn’t have to hear the sound of the ringing alarm clock every morning.”

(……..When you have a home based business you have the added benefit of being able to check your Facebook Account anytime you want……..No bosses looking over your shoulder).

So back to my story…..

At first I thought it was strange that he answered but, then, it dawned on me that her husband had not been allowed to sleep-in even though he was retired while she continue working. Poor guy.

Discipline is Key For Success

Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment – Jim Rohn

Discipline is KeyFrom the time we are born, we are learning discipline from our parents and later on from our teachers. Discipline is important in all aspects of life. Without it families suffer disharmony. There has to be someone in charge or as a leader to main order and avoid chaos. Discipline is key for success in every part of our lives. Without it, we will not prosper and find ourselves stumbling throughout life.

Oops! Common Blogging Mistakes

It's only fair to share...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterDigg thisShare on Google+Share on LinkedInPin on Pinterest

Common blogging mistakesBlogging is one of the easiest and fastest ways to promote an online  business. People all over the world are taking to the Internet and starting blogs in every niche conceivable. There are  common blogging mistakes that you must be aware of to avoid wasting your time and that of your readers.

As you begin your journey into the blogging world, there are pitfalls to watch out for if you want to standout…….. among more experienced bloggers.

Since blogging is how I promote my affiliate marketing online business, I spend many hours researching other sites and blogs.  As a result I’ve learned a few things I hope will help you to identify common blogging mistakes that you must avoid……..

So, lets get started and please keep in mind that these are probably the most common mistakes I’ve discovered in my research……..

Not Being Original and Authentic

I love reading blogs that let the true personality of the writer shine thru. Be yourself and write for the reader. If you have only technical, hard to read content that only you understand, trust me your readers will not stay on your site very long. Write the way you speak. You need to keep your readers excited and engaged and wanting to come back for more.

You might be an expert in your niche, have all the latest up-to-date gadgets, widgets and know- how; but, if you can not connect with your audience, or make unethical choices in presenting  your material, you will be a miserable failure.

Don’t Copy – That’s a Big, Big No-No!

It’s unethical to copy someones material. It’s also dishonest and unprofessional. Be sure that you have knowledge of your niche and put the information into your own words. Remember to site sources and give credit for material you quote or post on your site. If you like something someone else said, put it into your own words.

Understand Legalities to Avoid Common Blogging Mistakes

Make sure to understand whatever legal issues surround blogging. Pay special attention to copyright, trademarks, defamation and all legalities beforehand to avert any future problems. You should never publish someones photos or images without prior permission. There are many FREE image/photo/graphics sites……make Google your best friend.

You can find some excellent sites for your Free Images here.

Remember –  know your resources and post fact and not hearsay.

Research Other Blogs – Read How Others Avoid Common Blogging Mistakes

I enjoy reading the way other writers construct and present their content. There is much to learn from experienced bloggers who already made all the common blogging mistakes. They are more than willing to share their knowledge about what works and what doesn’t.

Take the time to Google “best bloggers” or “Top Best Posts” to read blogs from the most experienced. I also love to read News Blogs likes Huffington Post or any other news blogs. I have learned tons about different writing styles and have get many ideas for topics to write about.

Some bloggers will be more open to sharing their “toolbox” of ideas with you than others. Don’t get discouraged.

Are You Happy With Your Writing Style?

Wow…..there are tons of blogs out there! They all have their own writing style. Sometimes I come across a blog that is so technical, is written in block style with words that go on and on and on…..sorry but very boring,,,,,,,,common blogging mistakes

Wouldn’t you enjoy reading a blog that is more conversational and speaks to you in simple language with a twist of humor and levity?

  • Use nice graphics and color images to brighten up your blog that are relevant to your topic.
  • Infuse your blog with  your opinions or even quote the opinions of others even if outrageous and unconventional as they might seem.
  • People like honesty. If they can relate they will come back to read what else you have to say.
  • Be careful with the “swear words”…..you don’t want to offend your readers.
  • Be polite. Don’t talk down to your readers. No body likes to be insulted or made to feel inferior.
  • Be creative. Think about what you might enjoy seeing on a blog that others might find of interest.

Not Editing Your Content is a Common Blogging Mistake

We all make mistakes and from time to time and spelling errors get by editing. I get that! But, know that when there are many errors, your blog will look unprofessional and unpolished. If you need help with editing ask someone for help. I actually ask my husband to check my posts because I’ve been staring at my blog for hours and I can’t always see typos, spelling errors etc.

Think About the Title of Your Blog.

Your content might be the best and most relevant, but  if the Title of the blog is lousy or boring…..and not catchy……your blog might not be read. You did all that work for nothing. What a shame.

Use words that capture attention. Keep the title to less than 40 characters….search engines like that.

I like to use words that cause concern or curiosity. Have you noticed that when you search something online, many titles have the word Alert or Scam or Watch Out? There’s a reason for that……don’t be afraid to be a little controversial.

Speaking of Your Title – Use Keywords

What About Feedback and Comments?

I’ve notice that some bloggers don’t invite their readers to leave feedback or comments. Not sure why that is. Your readers want to participate in your blog especially if they have taken the time to read and follow your blog.

It is very IMPORTANT to use a call to action phrase at the end of your blog. For instance, say something like: “I hope that you’ve found my blog interesting…..please leave a comment or questions…etc.” See what I mean?

Don’t  be afraid to ask for opinions either.

Now this is also very important. If someone leaves a comment or a questions, be sure to respond immediately. They will not come back if you ignore them. If comments are not being moderated, people will assume that your site is inactive.

Oh, and be sure to remove SPAM from comments section for the same reason as above. Besides your site will look unprofessional if you leave the spam there. It also looks like you don’t care about the appearance. I know these are little picky things, but, believe me they all matter.

Don’t Forget to Share Your Blog

We bloggers are blessed today to have many means to share our blogs and articles. Social Media is the best  thing to come along ever. There are many places you can promote your blog to.  I like  Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn as well as others. Do like I do and read others blogs and don’t be afraid to comment and leave your thoughts. Bloggers like  that. It’s a great way to meet other bloggers. They will re-pay you in kind.

Social Media Rocks!

So, there you have it. This post is just an overview of what good bloggers practice. Blogging is fun and many are making a good living  just having fun……

I am sharing these tips with you as they have been SUPER helpful for me in beginning my blogging career.

Consistently creating high quality content is hard work. I won’t sugar coat it. I get writer’s block quite often and it’s easy to get distracted when you work from home. There is always someone who stops by or calls or demands your attention. Balancing the day is not easy. Many do not take what I do seriously. I do! This is how I choose to make an income. If it were easy. many would be doing what we bloggers and marketers do.

It can take a long time to get established and recognized on the internet. But, it doesn’t have to be…….

I have been fortunate enough to find a community online where I learned how to create a website just like this one and have gotten all the tools I need to become an expert blogger.
